PANJIM: In a startling development in the coastal village of Cansauilm, eminent physician Dr Marconi Correia who also happens to be the BJP Cortalim Block President took to the stage of Congress candidate Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco and said he would support him irrespective of his position in the party as Block President.
Dr Marconi said that time has come to do away with these communal forces and to safeguard the secular fabric of our state. He said that Late. Mathany Saldanha was a good friend and Mathany would have never approved of the U-turns of the BJP government. The government’s stand on Mopa and Casino’s is contrary to what Mathany fought for and thus exposes the lies and the double speak of the govt. Dr Marconi told the people that he had not asked for a post in the BJP but yet it was given to him. He said he had no qualms to be removed from his post for supporting Reginaldo and said he would be more than happy to stop receiving SMS’s about the party updates.
UGDP Vice President Adv Radharao Gracias also addressed the gathering. He explained to the people how he is not a member of the Congress party but has yet decided to help Reginaldo for the sole reason that this being an important election for the country and we have to stand united and not allow the communal forces to take advantage of our division. He reminded the people about the misrule of the state govt in the last two years and explained how disastrous a BJP govt could be at the centre. Radharao advised the people not to fall prey to these time tested divisive tactics of the BJP and to stay united and support Reginaldo and vote for Reginaldo on the day of the election.
Congress Candidate Reginaldo Lourenco expressed his contentment over Dr Marconi’s stand to support him and said he was thankful for his support. He explained to the people how this is an important election and when a noted Doctor and respected citizen from the area, Dr Marconi has explained this, he is more than grateful for his support. Reginaldo said that scrapping Mopa will be his primary agenda, and that he understands how stopping Dabolim will affect the tourism dependent along the entire coast. Reginaldo said he will represent the voice of all Goans in the Parliament, just as he has in the Assembly.
Also present at the meeting was Ex Sarpanch of Cansaulim Martha Saldanha, Congress Block President Cortalim Devendra Kenkre and other elected members of the area.
