PANJIM: While acknowledging ruling coalition’s efforts to tackle illegalities in the State, BJP MLAs expressed their ire at crimes still occurring in the State especially along the coastal belt.
Calangute MLA Michael Lobo brought to the notice of the House that crime in the coastal belt are occurring on a ‘day-to-day’ basis leaving a bad impression on tourists.“Tourists go back with bad experience in the State… There are continuing thefts with no detection…” Lobo said while urging the government to increase the strength of the Calangute police station.Lobo also pointed out government machinery’s failure to arrest major drug lords and curb rampant drugs menace as drugs, were being largely pushed by the Nigerians.
“Drugs are common in the coastal belt. Cocaine is easily available here as Nigerians who are on students’ visa are pushing drugs in the area,” he alleged.
Lobo has often been raising these concerns of drug trafficking in the coastal belt, and had once submitted list of four alleged drug pushers to the police department in a confidential communication. “Nigerians are moving into every bylane of Calangute. They are directly asking the tourists whether you want Coke, which means cocaine. They have not spared the local youth too who are consuming these drugs,” he said.
While underlining that adulterated drugs were also being pushed in the coastal area, he demanded that government give clear cut directions to the police to stop the menace, arrest the drug pushers and deport them.
Another BJP MLA Kiran Kandolkar also took on the police department asking how difficult it was to raid prostitution, drugs and gambling dens, especially as the department was well aware of their locations. He demanded that that police take up challenging tasks by cracking down on burglaries and dacoities to stop the series of robberies occurring in the State.
“The police should arrest those outsiders who commit murder and flee from the State,” he said.
Mickky seeks to know govt action in drug nexus case
PANJIM: Goa Vikas Party MLA Francisco Mickky Pacheco sought to know from Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, the steps the government intended to take against all those indicted in the police-politician-drug nexus report.
The House Committee headed by Pacheco had submitted its report on drug nexus to the House indicting former Home Minister Ravi Naik last year.“I want to know from the government whether they intend to take action based on the drug nexus report or it would be kept under wraps. Allegations are being levied against me of settlement with those indicted in the report,” Pacheco said pointing to the allegations by independent MLA Vijai Sardesai.Supporting the cut motion moved by opposition on demands for Home, Sardesai had alleged settlement between government and those indicted in the House committee report.“I feel that there is a settlement between all…no action has been taken based on the report,” he alleged.
