BJP seeks inquiry in land filing along St Cruz-Taleigao bypass

PANJIM:
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Taleigao Mandal has demanded an inquiry into
land filling and cutting of coconut trees along side Taleigao-St Cruz bypass.

Addressing
the media, Taleigao BJP Mandal President Dattaprasad Naik stated St Cruz MLA
Atanasio Monserrate brought to the notice of the PWD Minister in the Assembly that
work of Taleigao-St Cruz bypass is pending since 2012. To this PWD Minister Ramkrishna
(Sudin) Dhavalikar replied saying that the land acquisition has not been done,
hence they could not broaden the road.

“However
it is noticed that there is massive land filling done on either side of the
road and many coconut trees cut. We also want to know whether panchayats of
Taleigao and St Cruz have given any permission for the same,” Naik said.

Stating
that the area on either side of the bypass is ecologically sensitive, with
small and large water bodies, he said the fields act as water catchment area and
are cultivated regularly. If these fields are converted into realty jungle, it
would be a disaster for the people of Taleigao and St Cruz, he said.
