BJP suffers blow in Bethora ZP

BJP worker and former Bethora Sarpanch files nomination as independent candidate while BJP declares another ‘official’ candidate for same seat

PONDA:  BJP is facing trouble as far as the Borim ZP seat is concerned as BJP worker and former Bethora Sarpanch Poonam Samant, filed her nomination as an Independent candidate whereas the party declared its official candidate in Deepak  Borkar.

Samant, had the backing of her supporters when she filed her nominations.  She added that all know about her work for the party and all-round development for the village as the former sarpanch from 2012-17. She added that the Borim ZP seat was supposed to have been reserved for women but it didn’t happen. Pointing out that the seat is now of general category, she said she wants to give justice to women. Responding to queries, she said she has not left the party but refused to comment on the party’s decision. She however acknowledged that she had approached the party earlier.  It is to be noted that her husband is also a panch member and former sarpanch.

It is also to be noted the Borim and Bethora panchayat is part of the ZP seat jurisdiction.  Reacting to the development, BJP Shiroda Block President Suraj Naik said that BJP is a big party.

“The party is supreme for us and it’s not about individuals. The party workers support the candidates selected by BJP and Deepak Borkar will surely win,” said Naik, while stating that Pooja’s candidature will not affect BJP’s prospects.
