BJP sweeps both Lok Sabha seats

the results of the Lok Sabha elections underlined the decimation of the Congress party in Goa and showed that the party had not learnt any lesson from the drubbing it received in the 2012 Assembly elections.
BJP’s sitting North Goa MP Shripad Naik retained his seat beating Congress’ Ravi Naik by a huge margin and in South Goa Congress candidate Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco lost to BJP’s Narendra Sawaikar by quite a huge margin.
In the 2007 polls, the BJP had just scrapped through after Naik had barely beaten NCP’s Jitendra Deshprabhu, while Francisco Sardinha had won on the Congress ticket from South Goa.
The election campaign and results proved BJP’s better organization and underlined the deficiencies in the Congress infrastructure in the State. The Congress struggled to furnish workers to man booths in parts of North Goa, and in South Goa was lacking people to run the campaign.
As a result of the drubbing it faced, former chief minister Luizinho Faleiro was brought in as State Congress President in an attempt to revive the party.
