PANJIM: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will announce its candidates for the three Assembly constituencies going to by-polls on Monday. BJP State Chief will attend the central election committee meeting to be held on March 18 in New Delhi.
After the meeting of the State leadership and its MLAs at its office in Panjim, State President Vinay Tendulkar said, “The State leadership has discussed the names of the candidates. We will be attending the CEC meeting on March 18 and thereafter the names will be announced.”
Speaking to media after the meeting, Calangute MLA Michael Lobo said, “Mapusa candidates will be declared by Monday by the central leadership. We have been taken into confidence regarding the Mapusa seat. I and Glenn Ticlo since we are the MLAs of Bardez we have told the party to decide on the right candidate. We have given our suggestions.”
When asked about the preferences and whether the party is considering Joshua, son of former MLA late Francis D’Souza, Michael said, “We have to get the seat elected. The decision will be taken by the party leadership. There are a lot of people who have to be taken into confidence including the Mapusa Municipal Council. They had come to meet the party leadership. The Mapusa Mandal also has to be taken into confidence.”
