BJP to contest Valpoi in full vigour
The BJP will contest Valpoi seat which has fallen vacant after Vishwajit Rane resigned on Thursday to join the Congress Party.
The Leader of the Opposition Manohar while addressing a press conference on Friday evening said party will contest Valpoi seat in full vigour, which it lost to Rane in 2007 elections.
While replying to a question who will be their candidate, Parrikar, said party will decide the candidate at a later date.
He also declared party’s intention to expose Rane’s alleged misuse of power and his ineffective handling of his portfolios — agriculture and health. They will go to Valpoi voters and request them to vote for a better MLA.
Interestingly, during last three years BJP has been virtually silent against Rane. While some Congress ministers faced “ire” of the Opposition Leader on the floor of the House and they were exposed for their “wrong doings”, the health minister had a smooth sailing.
Rane contested the Valpoi seat as an independent candidate after it became clear that Congress Party will not give him the ticket.
He won the seat with a huge margin defeating BJP’s Narhari Halarnkar. Rane, the first time MLA however lapped at the first opportunity to support the Congress -led government and also earned a ministerial berth in the government.
