BJP warns govt against imbroglio

While the stalemate between the Congress and G-7 continues, the BJP today sounded a warning that it would not take things lightly as in-fighting in the government has led to collapse of the administration.
Addressing a press conference at Assembly complex in Porvorim on Thursday, Opposition leader Manohar Parrikar said he would call on the governor next week and demand dissolution of Goa Assembly if the warring groups do not put an end to their infighting.
“Due to the fighting between G-17 (Congress minus Speaker) and G-7, the administration has collapsed and none of the ministers in the last 10-15 days has been attending to any business, Parrikar charged and added that he would take up matter with the Governor and would request him to dissolve the assembly.
He said that he would discuss the issue of infighting in the government and the consequent collapse of the administration with his legislative wing before calling on the Governor.
He said that law and order situation has deteriorated and cited two recent incidents wherein a pistol was used as proof of the deteriorating law and order situation.
Referring to the accident that happened in Tilamol-Quepem wherein a man was run over by mining truck on March 31, Parrikar said, it was only in the evening that administration could put things in order even as agitated people took to streets after the incident.
On Wednesday afternoon, residents blocked traffic along the Quepem-Curchorem highway in protest against unregulated mining transportation along the highway.
Bumper mining: Total ore extraction is likely to be double (100 metric ton) as and when remaining mining licences become operational.
Currently, 70-75 mines are in operation. But according to Parrikar as many as 100 licences are in the waiting to get clearance. Once those licences become operational, it would definitely led to bumper increase in mining production, he said.
Currently, people in the coastal belt are not only fighting with mining pollution but also hazardous traffic of mining ore.
Parrikar had raised the issue of inadequate road network in the mining belt during the just concluded assembly session.
People have been demanding that trucks carrying mining ore should be restrained from passing through their villages and separate corridor should be built for transportation of mining ore.
