VASCO: The Bharatiya Janata Party Yuva Morcha (BJPYM) activists held a protest across the State accusing the Congress Party for imposing Emergency in the country 47 years ago.
They called the imposition of Emergency in 1975 was ‘Black day’ for democracy and in country’s history. At Panjim, BJYM president Sameer Mandrekar said that the people of this country experience the Emergency and how political opponents were hailed and civil liberties were curbed.

At Curchorem, PWD Minister Nilesh Cabral said that several political opponents were arrested and jailed for no reasons during emergency. He said that though the incident occurred in 1975, observing the day was not to downgrade the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and to ensure that such incident are not repeated in the democratic country.
Addressing the BJPYM activists at Vasco, MLA Krishna ‘Daji’ Salkar said that Emergency was not in the interest of the country. He said that people should know how their fundamental rights were curtailed for almost 21 months of Emergency. He said that political opponents were arrested and jailed while even the freedom of press was censured.
