PANJIM, SEPT 27
Bhartiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) on Monday submitted a memorandum to the Director General of Police demanding investigation into the alleged misuse of public fund by the Goa Pradesh Youth Congress (GPYC) for Canacona flood relief.
The party alleges that neither the total funds of approximately Rs 100 lakh have been disbursed nor proper accountability is maintained. “Office bearers of GPYC chanced upon this sensitive issue to collect funds in the garb of CRF, which eventually went unaccounted…the scam was systematically carried out, as even the standard practice of numbering the receipt books was not allowed,” BJYM president Pramod Sawant said.
A delegation of five members met the DGP Bhim Sain Bassi in his office even as other members were asked to remain outside the police head quarters. The extreme South taluka – Canacona was hit by sudden flood on October 2, 2009 that washed away several houses and caused damages to properties and crops.
Various sections of the society came forward offering all sorts of assistance to victim villagers by way of collecting funds for construction of houses, compensate residents, etc.
When contacted senior police officers, told reporters that they are looking into the matter to decide further course of action.
