VASCO: Blame game between the fisherwomen and Mormugao Municipal Council has started over the fish market complex project.

The fisherwomen claim that the fish market project is being used by MMC councillors and local politicians to gain mileage during election time, whereas MMC Chairperson Nandadeep Raut blames fisherwomen for not settling their internal disputes.
“The fish market project can come up if Vasco MLA Carlos Almeida and Urban Development Minister Milind Naik agree together,” says fisherwomen.
Recently, the number of illegal fish vendors selling fish in the vicinity has increased. Although, the municipality is claiming to take strict action on such vendors, but illegal fish vendors still continue to sell fish near Vasco fish market.
When contacted Mormugao MMC Chairperson Nandadeep Raut, said that fisherwomen should try to solve their internal issues first instead of blaming the authorities.
Raut also mentioned that MMC has taken strict action through frequent drives on those selling fish outside the market.
“We have also told people to bring it to our notice if they find someone selling fish illegally outside fish market. So far nobody has contacted me in this regard,” said the chairperson.
“There are some technical issues which can be easily sorted out if Vasco MLA Carlos Almeida and Urban Development Minister Milind Naik agree together.”
