BICHOLIM: The Bicholim Municipal Council (BMC), taking advantage of the lockdown, has undertaken road repairs and other developmental work in the town even as the Opposition has expressed displeasure over the road widening from Walshi to Bicholim.
Speaking to Herald, Speaker and Bicholim MLA, Rajesh Patnekar said that the BMC has undertaken several works especially that of hot mixing.

“BMC has taken up road hotmixing work of about Rs 3 crore in and around the town and in next eight days the work of Lamgao roads will be taken up by the PWD at a cost of Rs 64 lakh,” said Patnekar.
He came down heavily on former MLA, Naresh Sawal, for opposing and making baseless allegations over the Walshi-Bicholim road widening and beautification. “There are some who are opposing this road just for the sake of opposing or because they are not having any other issue. We all know that this widening of road was the need of the hour and it would surly help the future,” said Patnekar.
Earlier, Naresh Sawal at a press conference had accused the BMC for spending the special infrastructure grant on widening and had claimed that it is the work of the PWD and not that of BMC.
He had also asked as to how BMC encroached and tried to widen part of road which actually come under Mulgao panchayat.
The Mulgao Sarpanch, Prakash Arondekar however today clarified that BMC had not encroached but done the road widening at the request of the panchayat.
“There are many accidents that take place at the Walshi junction. So we had requested the MLA to take up widening of about a 100-meter section of the road. Accordingly they took up the work which would be helpful for the people from Mulgao panchayat area. No one should make any issue of it and support development,” said Arondekar.
