BICHOLIM: The Bicholim Municipal Council (BMC) on Monday decided to remove the five illegal kiosks from the market thereby putting an end to the controversy.
The decision to this effect was taken during a special meeting of the BMC which was attended by BMC Chief Officer Vivek Naik, Chairperson Rajaram Gaonkar, Deputy Chairperson Kundan Falari and Councillors Vijaykumar Natekar, Chaitanya Teli, Nissar Shaikh, Ajit Birje, Sudan Govekar, Tanuja Gaonkar and Gurudas Pal. Councillors Medha Bordekar and Sukhada Teli failed to attend the meeting.
The meeting deliberated on future plan of action with regards to five illegal kiosks of five businessmen in Bicholim market which were sealed by BMC. Finally, it was decided to remove all the five kiosks as the owners failed to obtaining prior permission from BMC’s technical section for the same.
The chief officer said presently the five businessmen can conduct their business below the market staircase and they will be intimated in advance if BMC decides to demolish the staircase but not before making their alternative arrangements.
This decision was passed unanimously by council.
