PANJIM: Bharat Mukti Morcha (BMM) has objected to the Investment Promotion Board recommending that Vanxim land be converted to settlement zone to set up a 5-star resort.
Addressing the media, BMM President Maggie Silveira said they have filed the objection with the Town and Country Planning Department on Monday as IPB didn’t conduct any site inspection to verify the nature of the land.
Silveira said IPB has recommended the conversion of 82,295 sq metres of orchard land in Vanxim to settlement zone to construct the 5-star resort promoted by Ozone Leisure and Resort Pvt Ltd. She said that Vanxim, being a low-lying area with biologically active mud flats, khazan land, mangroves and sluice gates will be affected in this conversion goes through.
Claiming that IPB’s decision is motivated by political inference, BBM has called for a CBI investigation.
Silveira also filed a case with CBI on Monday alleging corruption in the Vanxim land deal. She named Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar, Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar, former Chief Minister Digambar Kamat, Tourism Minister Dilip Parulekar, MLAs Pandurang Madkaikar, Vishwajit Rane, Mickky Pacheco, former PWD Minister Churchill Alemao and former MP Francisco Sardinha. Silveira asked that the role of government officers in the land deal be probed, including deputy collector Sabaji Shetye and Sanjeev Desai.
BBM demanded termination of 2 lease deeds for marinas at Nauxim and Sancoale signed by MPT with pvt firms to set up marinas, for which IPB recently gave the green signal.
