PANJIM: With close to 30,000 SSC and HSSC students set to appear for the public exams in March 2014, the Goa Board for Secondary and Higher Secondary Education is set to keep a tight vigil on possible technology assisted cheating during the three weeks exams.
Officials of the Goa Board have already studied the various forms of high tech cheating that could be adopted by students and supervisors have been directed to keep a close watch on any suspicious activity during the Board exams.
This is the first time, in several years, that the Goa Board is conducting exams for SSC and HSSC students together.
“We are aware of the new forms of hi-tech cheating that students could engage in during the exams,” Chairman of the Goa Board JR Rebello told Herald Monday, adding that the personnel engaged in the conduct of exams at the respective centers will have to be on the alert.
Rebello said that it is not possible for the Board to install jammers at all centers to deal with this problem and would need supervisors to be very vigilant.
“Hi-tech cheating in exams is more prevalent in case of objective papers,” the Board chairman explained.
Presently, the Board is holding meetings with heads of institutions at various examination centers across the State to ensure smooth conduct of the public exams for Std X and XII.
The Board had notified the final time-table for HSSC exams on its webpage earlier this month and had notified the final time-table for SSC exams in the last week of December. The exams will be conducted in March 2014.

Rebello said that the time-tables have been worked out in such a manner that SSC students and HSSC students would be answering papers on separate days.
The HSSC practical exams in the general stream will commence from February 1, 2014. However, the detailed programme of the practical examinations would be notified later through the heads of institutions.
In the vocational stream, the audit for regular students will commence from February 3, 2014, while the oral and practical examination for repeaters in respect of Higher Secondary schools where the courses have been started for the first and second year, will commence from February 15, 2014.
There will be no major increase in the number of examination centers and both SSC and HSSC exams would be conducted within the enlisted centers.
While exams for SSC will conclude on March 15 and for HSSC by March 19, the exams for Std X (Children With Special Needs) which begins on March 4 will conclude only by March 21, 2014 due to varied combinations.
