PANJIM: Coastal police have written to the Captain of Ports, Tourism Department and the Fisheries Department that the boat operators have not followed the rules and violated the norms. The case pertains to the boat which capsized off Baina beach on April 25.
Sources informed that a report has been submitted to the concerned authorities to take action against the boat operators for negligence and flouting the norms and guidelines.
A senior officer informed that on the fateful day after rescuing the tourists when police questioned the operators, they were unable to produce the documents needed o operate the vessel.
“Even safety norms are not being followed by the operators and they blame the tourists”, the officer said.
At least 30 tourists were rescued from a boat that was on the verge of capsize after water had entered in due to strong wind. The boat was carrying the tourists to Dona Paula from Bat Island. The boat was towed to the Baina shore with the help of two rescue boats and divers of Drishti.
