OLD GOA/PANJIM: The body of 35-year-old Paresh Vinayak Chodankar was found hanging from a tree at Bala Bala ground, Ribandar on Wednesday with his hands and legs tied and his face covered with a cloth.
Old Goa police informed that they received a call at around 7.45 am stating that a body was hanging from a tree at Ribandar.
“The body was hanging by a nylon rope. The face was covered with a cloth and the hands and legs were tied,” stated Investigating Officer PI Krishna Sinari. He further informed that the victim’s motorcycle was found 75 metres away from his body. A bag containing the victim’s clothes and belongings was also found.
Sinari further stated that there were neither external injuries nor violent marks on the body, and the autopsy report has given the cause of death as asphyxia due to hanging. Sniffer-dogs and fingerprint experts were also pressed into service, but could not throw any light on the incident.
However, Sinari said that the police have not ruled out anything and are investigating from all angles after registering the case as unnatural death.
The victim’s brother Sameer Chodankar suspects that his brother was murdered. He reasoned, “How come his hands and legs were tied?”
He also informed that Paresh had told him that he was about to get a huge amount of money, and the murder could be fallout of that. He added, “We didn’t know from where he was supposed to get the money and from whom. He last contacted us on Tuesday and said he would come home on Wednesday morning.” The victim went missing after the conversation.
