VASCO: The Gram Sabha members of Chicolna-Bogmalo Panchayat have formed a special committee to study, once again, the Regional Plan (RP) 2021, for the village and to check and point out the discrepancies in the plan. The decision was taken in the Gram Sabha held on Sunday.
Gram Sabha member Andrew Tawares pointed out that RP-2021 which has been prepared for the village is not only confusing but is prepared to suit the needs of some land sharks who are eying on the village. The Gram Sabha members further pointed out that, in past, they had raised their objections and had suggested changes to RP-2021; however, they were not incorporated in the plan. The regional plan, as it stands today, will destroy the identity of the coastal village, the said.
Sarpanch Laxman Kavlekar said, “In order to make things clear I propose to set up a committee including some experts from the village and then after going through the whole plan, the committee can prepare a report citing discrepancies and the same can then be forwarded to (the local) MLA Mauvin Godinho who has consented to take up the issue before the authorities.”
Accordingly, a committee with Sarpanch Laxman Kavlekar as chairman and former sarpanch Urbano Rodriguez, Andrew Tawares, Augustine Rebelo and panchas as members was formed.
The gram sabha also had a lengthy discussion on the issue of parking, changing rooms, toilet facilities at the Bogmalo beach which is pending since last several years. The issue of football ground was also raised at the meeting and it was decided to take up the issue before the government after consultation with the local MLA who could then follow up the same.
