The Bombay High Court has dismissed an appeal filed by the Goa government, thereby upholding the acquittal of Bhanwar Ghusulal Chouhan in a sexual assault case dating back to 2016.
In its order, the High Court declined to interfere with the earlier judgment of the trial court, which had acquitted the accused after examining the evidence on record. The State had challenged the acquittal, seeking a reversal of the trial court’s verdict.

Court Finds No Grounds to Overturn Acquittal
While dismissing the appeal, the High Court observed that there were no sufficient grounds to overturn the findings of the lower court. The bench noted that an appellate court would interfere in an acquittal only if the trial court’s conclusions were found to be perverse or unsupported by evidence.
The case pertained to allegations of sexual assault reportedly committed in 2016. However, the trial court had earlier given the benefit of doubt to the accused, leading to his acquittal.
