PANJIM: Save Bondvol Lake committee of Calapur St Cruz marched into the St Cruz panchayat office on Tuesday seeking an explanation over the action taken on the resolution passed in a special gram sabha held in April to save the Bondvol lake.
Almost 25 members of the Save Bondvol Lake Movement marched into the village panchayat of St Cruz and sought an explanation from Sarpanch and Secretary as the resolution passed in the gram sabha was to be taken up at the fortnightly panchayat body meeting which was held on April 27.
Speaking to Herald, Arturo D’Souza a member of SBL said the meeting was held but no resolution was mentioned in the minutes of the meeting. However, he said that the panchayat secretary assured the members to initiate action in two days over the resolution passed by the gram sabha.
The special gram sabha convened by St Cruz panchayat on April 16 had resolved to clear illegal constructions around Bondvol lake and conserve the heritage zone preserving the lake.
The gram sabha had resolved that to safeguard the interests of the villagers of Santa Cruz and the imminent danger to the heritage lake, the resolution passed would be adopted in the next Panchayat body meeting.
The village of Calapur-St Cruz is up against the illegal grabbing of the lake and development in the surrounding area which falls in a no development zone as per the Regional Plan.
The gram sabha had unanimously passed all the resolutions proposed by D’Souza and seconded by Victor Gonsalves, a former MLA of St Cruz.
Locals now suspect that the panchayat body is in league with the builder lobby and acting to save their interest by not taking action on the resolution passed by the gram sabha.
