PANJIM: In view of the Karnataka and Maharashtra elections to be held on April 17 all liquor premises within 10 kilometres from the border have been asked to shut shop from the evening of April 15 till April 17.
In a notification issued on Sunday, April 13, the government had ordered that the limit on transport of liquor will also be applicable for those days.
“All licensed premises “for the sale of liquor” located within the jurisdiction of 10 km. from theKarnataka border in the Villages of Pollem and Loliem of Canacona Taluka and Village Surla of Satari Taluka, shall be closed from 5 pm of 15-04-2014 to 17-04-2014, in view of General Elections of Lok Sabha, 2014 in the State of Karnataka,” the gazette notification reads.
The licenced premises having licence for “Bar and Restaurant” may be allowed to keep the restaurant open for serving food only. However, the Bar counter shall be closed and no liquor shall be allowed to serve on those days.
The owners of the licenced premises having “Bar & Restaurant” shall also display a board in the premises that no liquor will be served and that the restaurant will be open for serving food only.
So also within these areas, on those days, a person can carry a maximum of three quart bottles of Indian made foreign liquor other than beer and six bottles of beer for any person including his family and three quart bottles of country liquor for any person including his family.
