According to reports, the accident occurred at about 11 pm when Abishek Naik, who was seated on the seat behind the driver of a Baleno car, died on the spot. The speeding car, which was proceeding from Ponda towards Borim, overturned after it dashed against another oncoming car from Margao.
The Baleno car driver lost control of the vehicle and rammed into a roadside coconut tree. The impact was such that Naik was flung out of the car, which overturned on him after hitting the coconut tree.
The other three occupants of the Baleno car, including driver Shubam Naik (19), Ketan Naik (22) and Magirish Fadte (23), from Talavlim-Durbhat were seriously injured and rushed to GMC Hospital.
The four friends were returning home after an annual gathering at Farmagudi-Ponda.
