MARGAO: The Shadow Council for Margao (SCM) demanded fixing of responsibility for the Rs 38 lakh loss due to the purchase of the three banned BS4 engine trucks, and to make those responsible deposits the Supreme Court advocate fees with the Council as advance.
SCM Convener Savio Coutinho charged that the Council, being aware of the fact that the Supreme Court was on the verge of banning vehicles having such engines on account of pollution-control measures, opted to purchase them in an undue hurry, in connivance with the Tata Motors dealer M/s N D Naik, with heavy kickbacks having been received by those in authority then.

He further revealed that the invoices issued to the Council, against which around Rs 37.5 lakh was paid to the dealer, are either fake or invalid as the same has not been registered on the E-Vahan portal. And this is the primary reason why the vehicles cannot be registered by the RTO.
