Amid the diarrhoea outbreak at the Prabhu Violetta complex in Dabo lim, builder Amit Prabhu of Prabhu Realtors has refuted allegations of water contamination, asserting that no prior complaints were received from residents before the issue surfaced in the media. “We had not received any prior complaint or intimation from residents regarding the alleged water contamination issue. Despite this, we have undertaken all necessary precautionary measures, including immediately stopping the supply of borewell water. It has been verified that there is no mixing of contaminated water in the tanks. We want to clarify that the sewage treatment plants (STPs) are fully functional.
Residents have not taken steps to form housing socie ties, and they are welcome to approach us directly so that any concerns can be resolved,” Prabhu told media persons. He maintained that routine maintenance was already underway before the issue came to light. “A day before the news appeared, we had undertaken our scheduled quarterly cleaning of overhead water tanks. On that very day, the flat owner who spoke to the media had sent us an email, but it only mentioned disturbance caused due to the cleaning activity. There was no mention of any contamina tion concern. Had such an issue been brought to our notice, we would have immediately taken corrective measures,” he said. Prabhu explained that the complex has separate systems for potable and non-potable water. “There are two under ground sumps — one for PWD water and another for bore well water — along with separate overhead tanks. PWD water is supplied to kitchen taps for drinking purposes, while borewell water was being used for non-potable uses such as flushing and bathing,” he said, adding that all tanks were cleaned, checked for seepage and ensured to be con tamination-free. “At present, residents are being provided with safe PWD water,” he said. Prabhu further stated that water samples have been col lected and results are awaited. “We are taking all necessary steps to ensure there is no compromise on water quality. The STPs are fully operational, and there is no malfunction ing. There is absolutely no mixing of sewage-treated water with drinking water tanks, and this has been verified by our technical team,” he claimed.
