Rough estimates have pegged the value of the stolen property in the recent burglaries to over Rs 30 lakh.
That burglars continue to make merry in Navelim became evident as a bungalow became the latest target of the miscreants in the village. This time, they succeeded in lifting away 7600 US Dollars and 400 Euros equivalent to around Rs 4.48 lakh from the bungalow. Rodney D’Mello, a seaman residing at Butica 3 lane, Cruz Nagar-Navelim, who recently returned from a voyage on June 29, said he saw a person moving from one of the rooms of his house to the balcony door and then climbed down from an adjacent coconut tree at around 3.15 am today. He stated he and his family went to bed at around 1.45 am. He said at around 3.30 am he found that the draw of table were he had kept the foreign currency open and currency missing. It was then that he realized that what he had seen was the accused and not a dream. The thief had moved out of the room after stealing the booty.
Rodney filed a complaint with Margao police who have registered offence of burglary and house breaking under section 457, 380 IPC against unknown accused. A sniffer dog and finger print expert was pressed into service to obtain clues.
4 arrested for thefts
in guest houses
CALANGUTE: Calangute Police on Monday arrested four persons in connection with series of burglaries in some of the guest houses in Calangute. The arrests were made possible after one of the four was arrested at Canacona check post. Police recovered from their possession five mobile phones, mangalsutra and cash of Rs 30,000, all worth Rs 2 lakh. Their names were given as Rinku Singh, Altaf Mohd, Vishnu Das and Sadanand Naik.
