MARGAO: Burglars stuck in a big way at Seraulim last night on the busy Margao-Colva road when they successfully burgled a bungalow, decamping valuables, including diamond ornaments and currency, all worth over Rs 6 lakh.
The incident occurred last night when the burglars effected entry into the bungalow through the rear side by cutting open the lock of the gate and after damaging the door. At the time of the incident, owner Geetanjali along with her child and parents were sleeping inside the house.
After gaining entry, the burglars are believed to have headed straight upstairs and entered the room where Geetanjali, her child and mother were sleeping. Geetanjali told Herald that the miscreants lifted away the gold studded diamond mangalsutra and diamond bangle, besides cash of Rs 1 lakh, all valued at around Rs 6 lakh. The cash included one lakh Indian currency, 1000 Dhirams and 500 US Dollars. “I had brought the money to make the payments for the tile fitter. We had gone to sleep at around 1.30 am today. When I got up at around 4 am, I noticed that the cupboard was ransacked,” Geetanjali recalled.
Her father, Prakash Naik said that the culprits did not enter the rooms on the ground floor after gaining entry inside and straight away barged inside the room occupied by her daughter. “It appears that the burglary is the handiwork of someone, who had kept a watch on the house. They have entered into the room where my daughter was putting up with her child and mother,” Naik said.
The Colva police led by PI Uttam Raut Desai and DySP Mohan Naik visited the house for an on the spot assessment of the situation. The police sniffer dog and the finger print expert, however, could not provide any clues to the men-in-uniform.
