Burning of tyres contributing to pollution in State: activist

Social activist Anthony D’Silva on Saturday highlighted the issue of burning of tyres contributing to pollution in the State.
Saturday saw D’Silva sitting out the South Goa District Collectorate building with tyres around his body in a bid to convey a message to the rulers about the acute problem of abandoned tyres.
He asked the government to take note of the pollution caused by burning of tyres at nights and the need to impose heavy fines for tyre burning.
Lambasting the government for doing nothing to keep the pollution in check, D’Silva said it is a shame that Goan politicians despite a mention made by the Governor on the garbage issue have done nothing to stop pollution.
“I have decided to take up pollution caused by burning tyres, plastic bottles and Thermocol in the State. The whole exercise today is to draw attention of the authorities to the pollution caused by burning of tyres”, he said.
He conveyed a message to Chief Minister Digambar Kamat not to wait for too long to address the burning issues. “The whole idea is to hope and wait, expecting the little souls left in our leaders to be awakened”, he added.
