Bus driver loses control, hits electricity poles

Was overtaking another bus; 17 injured

MAPUSA: The driver of a private bus and 17 passengers were injured when a bus went out of control and hit two electricity poles at Sirsaim in Thivim on Saturday.

There were total 35 passengers in the bus including a one-year-old. All the passengers were injured including 13 female and 4 male. 

The incident occurred at 3.20 pm on Saturday when the bus registered GA-03-N-1023 was proceeding from Mapusa towards Valpoi and upon reaching Sirsaim, the driver lost control over the wheels and hit the electricity poles. The driver was allegedly overtaking another bus.

The front side of the bus was completely destroyed while the driver was stuck in the cabin. He was rescued by the locals present at the site. The injured driver and passengers were immediately shifted to North Goa District Hospital and are presently undergoing treatment. 

The driver is identified as Rakesh Godkar and the injured passengers include Surekha Naik (Bicholim), Sanjana Varak (Valpoi), Kalpana Varak (Valpoi), Anjali Prabhu (Valpoi), Reena Shingenekar (Valpoi), Sara Andrede (Assanora), Ashmita Gaonkar (Bicholim), Pranali Devidas (Shirgao), Suvarna Naik (Bicholim), Dattaram Shirodkar and  Ratikesh Talawanekar (Kudal), Imran Shaikh (Nerul), Rajesh Bondekar (Sankhalim), Fatima Sayyad (Bicholim), Parvin Sayyad (Bicholim).
