Though buses are the major mode of transport in Goa, the quality of their customer service leaves much to be desired.
It is the duty for the attending staff (conductors and drivers) of private buses and bus operators to see that people who travel do so with ease and also keep to the designated time.
A complaint box for transport issues, located beside the mail post at major bus stops with collection time of maybe 4pm (except Saturday and Sunday) will help commuters to ease their woes. Sitting arrangements for differently abled, senior citizens and ladies should be uniform in all buses. Also, the handles of seats are colour coded and marked red, green and blue respectively.
Bus owners could be given sufficient time, say a year, when they bring the bus for inspection.
Bus Owners’ association should also meet the Transport Minister and officials, have meetings with people and take their suggestions to make transport easy and convenient.
If the goal is achieved, more and more people would travel by buses thereby decreasing vehicles on roads and there would be much savings of fuel, as people give up their private vehicles for public transport.
As can be seen, on very few buses, bus staff displays a board near entrance showing departure time, destinations and fares, which will help people.
Also, all the bus stops should be marked so that tourists / strangers know where to board the bus.
