PANJIM: The attempt made by striking retrenched workers of the Sports Authority of Goa (SAG) to meet Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar failed as the latter was busy with other meetings on Wednesday.
Swati Kerkar, who is leading the campaign in a bid to resolve the 60-odd workers’ pending issue on jobs, alleged that the government does not appear interested in solving the crisis.
“We came to the Secretariat at about 4.45pm (on Wednesday) to express our grievance but the CM is busy with another meeting. I don’t think he will meet us today. But our fight will not end here,” she said.
Several workers, who were appointed on daily wages during the Congress tenure in 2011, are on strike demanding that the BJP-led government – that rendered them jobless 21 months ago – take them back. The workers accused the government of empty promises to re-induct them in the daily wage service.
The CM met with Sports Minister Ramesh Tawadkar on Wednesday for over an hour-and-a-half, however details of discussion were not available till late evening.
