Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, who inaugurated the facility, gave an assurance that payment for public services like online payment of electricity bills would happen by December end.
Dhavalikar said that government is committed towards providing 24×7 filtered tap water supply to the people of Goa and this would be fulfilled by December 2016. “At present Goa is the only state in India that provides filtered tap water to its consumers,” he said.
Under the JICA project, the government is augmenting the Selaulim water treatment facility by an additional 100-MLD and also revamping the water supply network to South Goa. It is also building new water treatment plants at various places in Goa including Ganjem (27-MLD), Opa (25-MLD), Maisal (15-MLD) and Canacona (20-MLD).
Speaking about the online payment, Dhavalikar said that currently the online payment of water bill facility will be extended to South Goa consumers, catering to nearly 1.25 lakh and within the next one year, the facility would be extended to North Goa.
“With this facility, the consumers will be able to pay water bills online through various e-payment modes such as credit card, debit card, internet banking and payment through State Bank of India branches,” he said.
There are total 2.40 lakh water consumers, with 75 percent being domestic consumers.
