PANJIM: Speaking about recruitment in the police department, chief minister Manohar Parrikar told media that it is taking more time to appoint police constables then it took to appoint the Lokayukta.
He said that by the end of the year there would be at least 1000 police officers that included 400 traffic police on the streets of the state as “total recruitment will be around 1000 by December 2013. Out of that 400 would be in the traffic cell.”
The chief minister informed that results of recruitment to posts of PSIs will be declared within the next eight days and the IRB process has to be completed by March 31.
“70-80 candidates are interviewed per day,” he said, adding, “total manpower requirements have been assessed.”
According to the chief minister who also holds the home portfolio, 698 constable posts have been finalised. “But 698 policemen have been given promotions, so again 698 posts of constables have become vacant. So now we have to recruit another 698 constables,” he said.
