Cab operator stabbed over casino taxi business rivalry

PANJIM: Attempts to monopolize the offshore casino taxi business resulted into bitter rivalry between two groups and seven persons stabbed a taxi operator from the rival gang in the early hours of Friday.

Shanur Dargad alias Pulsar was stabbed on his hands, shoulders and chin when he entered into a fight with his rivals, who protested his working style. The accused persons Ashpaq, Taufiq, Nisar and four unidentified persons then stabbed him with a sharp-edged weapon and an iron rod outside Casino Pride and Deltin Jaqk entrances at about 3am.
Dargad, who runs four casino cabs, was left bleeding. An ambulance was called and he was rushed to Goa Medical College and Hospital. The 28-year-old Chimbel resident is out of danger, Panjim PI Siddhant Shirodkar said.
The accused, also operating taxi businesses are at large. “Our teams raided their houses in Chimbel. We have kept a watch on their movements. They will be arrested soon,” he said.
Dargar has cases pending against him at Old Goa and Panjim police stations and was arrested on June 16, 2015 for allegedly assaulting 18-year-old Sanket Bandodkar at St Inez in May. 
The two groups are at loggerheads over running the taxi business near offshore casinos. “The stabbing incident was a result of this business rivalry,” the officer said. 
The accused too have criminal cases registered at various police stations.
The present case is registered under sections 143, 147, 148, 341, 326 read with 149 of the Indian Penal Code.
