PANJIM: The Cabinet on Friday granted its nod for recruitment of 89 drivers and conductors for running the additional fleet of 23 new buses of the Kadamba Transport Corporation Limited (KTCL), which would be purchased under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM). There will be 43 new heavy vehicle drivers and 46 new conductors for KTCL.
As per the proposal before the Cabinet, the Government of India under JNNURM has sanctioned Rs 18.77 crore to KTCL towards purchase of additional buses. Accordingly, KTCL has begun the process to acquire 50 buses.
“Presently, the Corporation has a fleet of 546 vehicles of which 27 over aged buses are scrapped as per the scrap policy. Thus on procurement of additional fleet of 50 vehicles, total 23 new vehicles will be added to the existing fleet,” the note reads.
The Department of Transport pointed out that in order to carry out the existing schedule operation of 343 schedules with 546 vehicles, the Corporation has 884 drivers and 654 conductors comprising 622 regular and 262 badli drivers and 554 regular and 100 daily wage conductors.
“Considering the additional fleet of 23 vehicles, the additional schedule will be operated and these vehicles will be pressed into operation,” the department said.
adding that looking at the staff ratio fixed by the government, KTCL needs an additional 43 drivers and 46 conductors.
The proposal has already been granted administrative and financial approval. The Corporation has to bear additional financial liability of Rs 13.35 lakh monthly.
