PANJIM: The Cabinet on Thursday accorded approval to the revamped Goa Startup Policy 2021 that focuses on creating a startup-friendly environment in the State.

The Goa Startup Policy 2017 had lapsed in 2020 and was granted six months extension, twice, since then. The new policy aims at 500 startups in the next three years. Addressing media persons after the cabinet meeting, Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant said the new policy offers several incentives to encourage startups. “We have revamped the entire policy making it more startup friendly. The previous policy had a lot of hiccups. It was not very startup friendly. We have worked on all the loopholes in the new policy,” he said.

Recently, Information Technology Director Ankita Anand had said the new startup policy will be sector agnostic, allowing new business ventures from cross sections and not just from the IT sector, to seek incentives.

She had also announced that women entrepreneurs will be provided a monthly allowance of Rs 22,000 at the idea stage for one year and technology support up to Rs 10 lakh for their startup. Units hiring locals and creating jobs would be provided necessary incentives.

In another decision, the Cabinet declined to relax the mandatory knowledge of Konkani for the post of head of institute in the Goa College of Art and Goa College of Architecture.

Sawant said Goa Public Service Commission (GPSC) had moved a proposal to relax the mandatory condition of Konkani knowledge for the posts. However, the same has been declined.

The Cabinet also granted approval for creation of seven posts in the Goa State Minority Finance Commission, which was without any staff so far.
