Cabral urges waiver of loan interest

CURCHOREM: Curchorem MLA Nilesh Cabral urged the banks to waive the interest on loans availed to purchase trucks, barges and machinery for mining business.

Cabral was speaking at a public meeting organised by truck, barge and machinery owners at Sanvordem-Tisk on Friday.
He appealed to the banks to help the owners to overcome their difficult situation due to a halt in mining activities. He also asked the owners to get the balance sheet of their loan as on September 30, 2012, including interest from the banks and ask how much discount the banks can give them. “The details can be given to the government to find amicable solution,” said Cabral.
Barge Owners Association President Atul Jadav claimed that banks made profit because they availed loans to purchase trucks, barges and machinery when mining activities were in progress, but now the same banks are refusing to support them during their hard and difficult time.
Later, the owners decided to stage a rally to the banks if they refuse to accept their demand of waiving interest on loans after the meeting of financial institutions with Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar on July 14.
Sanvordem MLA Ganesh Gaonkar, Sanguem MLA Subash Phal Dessai, Machine Owner Association President Sandip Parab, North Goa Truck Owner Association Secretary Yeshwant Dessai, South Goa Vice President Raghunath Naik and Treasurer Cajetan Fernandes were present for the meeting.
