PANJIM: The North Goa Rent-A-Cab Association has threatened to hit the streets if the State government fails to pay heed to their long pending demand of granting the required permits, within seven days.
The Association members submitted a representation to the Transport Department reminding it to approve their application submitted in July 2015.
“The Association has applied for rent-a-cab permit on June 5, 2015. The application is complete in all respects and is pending your approval since July 2015,” the plea undersigned by association President Ramdas Palkar said.
In the absence of Transport Director Sunil Masurkar, the members – upset over the government’s lethargic attitude towards their demand, submitted the letter to the office. Speaking to reporters thereafter, Association general secretary Amit Shirodkar warned of the consequence if their demand is not met.
“The Chief Minister (Laxmikant Parsekar) had assured to resolve our issue before Ganesh Chaturthi, but we are approaching Diwali and nothing is done. If our demand is not met, we will come on streets. How can the government ill-treat us like this?” he asked.
The members alleged that government is turning a blind eye to the illegal tourism-related businesses. “We need permit to run rent-a-cab services without hassles and our demand is within the law, unlike some other business which are illegally operating,” Shirodkar stated, adding that many families are bankrupt in the absence of permit to run the business.
