MARGAO: Sending a message loud and clear to the political opponents that the government will fully stand by its supporting MLA from Benaulim, Caitu Silva, the Parrikar government on Tuesday launched a slew of developmental projects amounting to a whopping Rs 220 crore, including the Rs 87.31 crore underground power cabling project, coinciding with the birthday of local MLA.
That the ruling dispensation accorded importance to the Benaulim MLA in the scheme of things became evident when Parrikar’s ministerial colleagues, including Deputy Chief Minister, Francis D’Souza, Power Minister Milind Naik, Social welfare Minister Mahadev Naik, besides deputy speaker Anant Shet, MLAs Subhash Faldesai, Rajan Naik, Michael Lobo, Carlos Almeida, Pramod Sawant, South Goa MP Narendra Sawaikar, NRI commissioner Dr Wilfred Mesquita attended the birthday bash. PWD Minister, Sudin Dhavalikar, Sports Minister, Ramesh Tawadkar and Water Resources Minister Dayanand Mandrekar launched a number of projects across Benaulim earlier in the day. GVP supremo Mickky Pacheco and South Goa ZP Chief Nelly Rodrigues were seated on the dais along with BJP President Vijay Tendulkar and others.
In his brief address, the Benaulim MLA thanked the leaders as well as his constituents for their wishes and blessings.
Deputy Chief Minister Francis D’Souza said the Benaulim MLA is known for pursuing developmental works with the ministers on a weekly basis. He appealed to the people to cooperate with the authorities and ensure that work on the underground cabling is taken to its logical conclusion without any problem.
A slew of projects were launched across Benaulim constituency, including the Rs 87.31 crore underground cabling project and road works worth Rs 170 crore. While the Chief Minister launched the underground cabling project at Dando ground in the presence of Cabinet colleagues, the Benaulim MLA and other dignitaries, PWD Minister Sudin Dhavlikar launched the 1000 cubic meter overhead water tanks in Varca and other villages. Sports Minister Ramesh Tawadkar and Water Resources Minister Dayanand Mandrekar launched sports and water nullah projects in the constituency.
