The Central Government has lowered the wholesale sugar stock limit from 4,000 quintals to 2,000 quintals to prevent hoarding and black marketing. Running from September 15 to November 30, 2026, the directive requires that sugar cannot be held for over 30 days from availability. However, Kolkata and the Kolkata Metropolitan Area retain the 4,000-quintal limit. The policy aims to ensure stable supply and fair consumer prices nationwide.
