MAPUSA: A six-member delegation of the Calangute Constituency Forum (CCF) met the Member Secretary of Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority (GCZMA), Ravi Jha, at the secretariat on Thursday and put forth their suggestions and objections to the Coastal Zone Management Plan (CZMP) and overall protection of the coastal environment.
They also wanted to follow up on the mud road that was constructed on Baga beach near the high tide line.
Calangute Constituency Forum President Premanand Divkar told Herald that they met with Ravi Jha to follow up on the road constructed at Baga beach that was not fully cleared.
“Four months ago we had submitted a complaint to GCZMA about that road constructed on the beach which was carried out causing massive destruction of beach vegetation and golden white sand dunes. The area was being converted into a 4-meter wide mud road with rubbles and due to the timely intervention it was asked to be cleared. We found that there was blatant violation of CRZ norms and Rules of the Environment Protection Act 1986. After the rains the mud and white sand has got washed away,” Divkar said.
The forum members also put forth their suggestions and objections in regards to the CZMP at the meeting. They highlighted that in the CZMP the sand dunes from Baga to Sinquerim are not shown.
