CALANGUTE: The villagers from Nagoa, Arpora, Parra, Calangute, Candolim and surrounding areas staged a peaceful rally to protest the “haphazard development and the rise in sex and drug trades”, recently.
Over 1,000 people participated in the rally, who later signed a memorandum which was submitted to the office of the chief minster, chief secretary and Town and Country Planning minister.
The memorandum was drafted by the Social Action Team of Calangute Parish which expressed concerns that the indigenous people of these villages feel threatened by the haphazard development and the rise in sex and drug trades.
The memorandum warned that the proposed draft ODP 2025 would lead to the destruction of the very ethos of the Goan culture; besides, it would also cause irreversible ecological damage and imbalance.
