Calangute heavyweights working overtime for their candidates

CALANGUTE: Three heavyweights from Calangute constituency, Calangute MLA Michael Lobo, former Calangute MLA Agnelo Fernandes and Joseph Sequeira, who have fielded their candidates for the Calangute ZP polls, are working overtime for the success of their candidates.

Besides the three candidates supported by the three heavyweights, others in the fray are former Calangute sarpanch Laxman Porob Palyekar, former Arpora-Nagoa sarpanch Mahesh Korgaonkar and Ashley D’Souza, a motor sports promoter from Calangute.
All the three leaders of Calangute have been moving on foot covering a lot of houses in a day to garner support from the three coastal villages of Calangute, Candolim and Arpora-Nagoa. Others in the fray are not lagging far behind and have been concentrating on individual contacts either visiting door-to-door or telephonic call besides posting messages on social website. The victory of the candidate depends heavily on Calangute and Candolim voters, which have a major chunk of votes.
Lobo has put up a BJP candidate in Shawn Martins, youth resident of Khobra Vaddo, Calangute, Agnelo Fernandes has placed his faith in a strong politician Ramkrishna Kerkar, popularly called Baba, while Sequeira is backing Savio Gonsalves, a panch and former Calangute deputy sarpanch.
Ramkrishna Kerkar has been going door-to-door along with Agnelo Fernandes and Candolim Panchayat members. The Agnelo team has covered Candolim village and have been visiting the villagers of Arpora-Nagoa.
Savio Gonsalves along with Sequeira and Calangute Panchayat members are on Calangute mission on door-to-door campaign, while Shawn Martins depending heavily on Lobo has been visiting the villagers of Calangute and Candolim on door-to-door campaign.
The political teams of Fernandes, Sequeira and Lobo have been moving around with a large group of leaders and supporters to win the hearts of voters.
The other heavyweight in the fray Laxman Porob Palyekar is unperturbed with the presence of large number of leaders and supporters saying: “Winning is not dependent on the number of leaders or supporters with you, but it adds to pressure on the electorate. We should let the people decide the choice of candidate on their own without any pulls and pressure tactics.”
