MAPUSA: The residents of Gaura Vaddo, East have filed complaint with the North Collector, local police, Forest Department and the local panchayat alleging illegal construction in Calangute.
In their complaint, the residents stated that developer of the property bearing Survey Nos 88/1, 88/2 and 88/3 in the Calangute Panchayat jurisdiction has been carrying out illegal activities.
They said, “It is disheartening to see that despite several protests and memorandums to the local authorities with regard to protection of village environment and its rich biodiversity, illegal activities such as hill cutting and felling of trees still continue under the pretext of development and our able local authorities and the elected representative are blindfolded and allow such destruction of Mother Earth for reasons best known to them.”
They further alleged that illegal hill cutting is being carried out in above Survey Nos along with destruction of environment and its biodiversity. The concerned person is using earthmovers to carry out the illegal activity.
The residents said they strongly oppose the development at the cost of environmental destruction and request the concerned authorities to take cognizance of the matter and initiate immediate action to stop further destruction of biodiversity and hill cutting.
