CALANGUTE: Irked over the constant load shedding and voltage fluctuations, Calangute Constituency Forum (CCF) along with the residents of the constituency on Monday marched to the Electricity Department and met the Assistant Engineer demanding a solution to the issue.
They submitted a memorandum stating their demands and hoped that their grievances would be resolved at the earliest, failing which they threatened to launch a massive agitation.
Locals opined that Calangute and Candolim are places of touristic importance and yet infrastructure has not been planned and streamlined in terms of 24×7 power supply for several years.
Premanand Divkar, president of Calangute Constituency Forum said the locals gathered outside the Electricity Department have asked the Assistant Engineer to discontinue issuing new connections to commercial units within the jurisdiction of Calangute and Candolim until the power issue was solved.
“We have seen that the common people from the villages are fooled and are given excuses that the Parra farmers are objecting the pulling of HTL lines through their fields. They have not assessed the impact on cultivation of the fields and followed proper procedures in planning the said HTL line. Calangute and Candolim are facing acute shortage of power supply and yet the department is clearing the files of mega and commercial projects within the jurisdiction of these villages without any assessment,” alleged Divkar.
Another local claimed that due to regular load shedding and voltage fluctuations, the common man from these villages suffered losses as such incidents have caused damage to their power gadgets and appliances.
The Assistant Engineer informed them that he would put forth their demand before his seniors.
It may be recalled that on May 9 when the locals marched to the department the Assistant Engineer was not in office. The locals were assured that he would meet them later.

Marcaim locals meet minister, complain of frequent power cuts
PONDA: Locals from Marcaim constituency on Monday met Power Minister Nilesh Cabral and informed him about the frequent power failures faced by locals of Durbhat, Adpoi, Agapur, Talavlim, Kapileshwarim, Kavlem and Ramanathi.
Led by Saurab Lotlikar, Vijesh Naik and Mangaldas Chari, the locals complained that the elders and children are forced to spend sleepless nights on account of power failures.
In their memorandum, they demanded that proper maintenance work be conducted on an urgent basis before the monsoons. The minister assured to solve the problems at the earliest.
