PANJIM: Calangute MLA and Deputy Speaker Michael Lobo has stated that the taxi owners in the State are not willing to work under an outsider and therefore demanded an app of the government in association with the taxi owners in the State.
He informed that the Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant has called for a meeting of all the tourist taxi owners associations in the State. Michael requested that the MLAs from the coastal areas join the meeting to reach an amicable solution on the issue.
“Our Goans taxi operators will not want to work under anybody. If the Goa Government comes up with an app in partnership with North Goa and South Goa tourist taxi owners, this will be like their own app,” he said.
“The taxi owners and operators in Goa need an app of their own. They think that GoaMiles are non-Goans and they are coming from other parts of the country. They do not want to work under anybody else. We do not want any more fights. In these fights the tourist should not get affected and leave Goa,” he further said.
Stating that in the recent past the tourist taxi owners and the GoaMiles app based taxis have been at loggerheads and involved in physical assaults, he said “This has become a major issue and several meetings have also been held in many places across the State. I have briefed the entire issue to the chief minister. To find a solution to this issue, CM has called for a meeting on Monday of the two taxi associations.”
