Alleging that the La Kristie shack was illegal, Lobo said he would go on a hunger strike along with locals to protest against the failure of authorities to act in the matter. “The La Kristie shack was totally illegal and it should not have been permitted by authorities, including the Calangute panchayat. The illegal shack owners, who should be brought to book and punished,” Lobo added.
On the other hand, Sequeira also admitted that the restaurant at one shack was illegal, but claimed Calangute panchayat was not responsible for the illegality. He said: “The Calangute panchayat had not given permission to the restaurant in the illegal shack, but Christopher Dias was given permission to run a restaurant in his house. The shack was totally illegal and we had been asking authorities to demolish it since 2013.”
