CALANGUTE: The Calangute panchayat recently adopted a resolution to remove a statue of ShivajiMaharaj which had been installed illegally near the Calangute police station overnight on June 3.
According to the Calangutepanchayat resolution, the spot alongside the major district road had been earmarked for a high-mast lamp.

“But, an organisation named Shivswarajya Calangute Trust allegedly erected the statue on the intervening night of June 2-3 without any permissions,” panchayat members said.
However, according to Calangute panchayat members, despite the panchayat resolution dated June 8, which had directed the organisation ShivswarajyaCalangute Trust, the PWD and the Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC) to remove the illegal statue within 10 days, the statue has still not been removed.
