CALANGUTE: Calangute Police have started investigation into the rioting incident that took place at Calangute late Friday night.
The Calangute Police led by PI Nilesh Rane are investigating into the incident and recording the statements. Police have recorded the statement of Dy Sarpanch Savio Gonsalves in connection with the incident.
According to police sources, CCTV footage has been sent to Calangute Police to identify the persons involved in damaging a vehicle and pelting stones on the hotel premises.
The local authorities are however reportedly backing the locals as they came to the support of Calangute Traffic Cell Police personnel who were lifting the vehicles parked in ‘No Parking Zone’, while ex-sarpanch and Panch Joseph Sequeira along with others supervised the towing operation.
The locals claimed that rioting was fallout of threats and challenge by the Russian woman who took the two-wheeler down from the towing vehicle with the support of another foreign national.
“If not for the refusal of the Russian woman, there would have perhaps been no rioting incident leading to arrest of hotel owner Savio Valles, provoking the locals by shooting in the air and at the crowd which led to suspension of five police personnel,” said a local.
