Sarpanch Joseph Siqueira said that there are hardly 20 NOCs have been issued by the panchayat for billboards and the rest are illegal.
He said that panchayat has issued a common notice for the removal of hoardings, failing which the panchayat would start a drive after December 5.
He said that panchayat would initiate the process to identify the illegal hoardings on Monday and the then would start removing them after the deadline.
He claimed that there are hundreds of billboards and hoardings erected allover Calangute without permission from the panchayat. Most of the business establishments in Calangute have not obtained the permissions from panchayat. “We are losing lakhs of rupees revenue on the billboards,” Sinqueira said. There are also some hoardings on the restricted areas causing inconvenience to the people.
“We are not against hoardings, but those who put the up should take permissions, pay the fees to panchayat and then display he hoardings,” Sinqueira said.
