MARGAO: The Camurlim or Ambora gram sabha while constituting various panchayat committees also resolved to keep on hold the proposal to set up a solar power plant on the panchayat building, on Sunday.
Sarpanch Basilio Fernandes proposed setting up a solar power plant on the panchayat building even if it meant using the panchayat funds. However, panchayat member Ashwin Kumar Naik objected to this and there were heated discussions between the two.
Finally, it was resolved that a solar power plant may be erected either under the MPLAD scheme or some other funds but definitely not under the panchayat funds. Ashwin pointed out that no study of whatsoever nature had been conducted on the proposed solar power plant including the cost and the power output that would be generated.
Cansaulim Health Centre’s sanitary inspector gave a talk on the importance of sanitation and cleanliness following which the Village Health, Sanitation and Nutrition Committee was constituted.
The gram sabha also constituted other committees including the Village Development Committee, Village Child Committee, Garbage Management Committee and seven ward development committees one for each ward of the village.
There was quite a bit of discussion on the functioning or rather non-functioning of the LED street lights in village where it was pointed out that in some places the lights work during the day and not at night when they are actually required.
“This is a problem because the electricity department has not supervised the work at all,” said the sarpanch who pointed out that the work of laying the underground cables was not supervised.
and similarly the work of installing the LED streetlights was left to the contractor concerned with no supervision from the department.
Referring to the assurance given on the floor of the House that all LED streetlights would be functioning by Ganesh, the villagers asked the sarpanch to give a list of places where the LED streetlights were not working even after Ganesh to the department.
